Tonight’s Challenge on “Next Level Chef”
In the ongoing competition of “Next Level Chef,” contestants are individually tasked with crafting an exceptional appetizer, complemented by a carefully crafted cocktail. A new twist, known as the “time token,” has been introduced, allowing the chef who produces the best dish to either gain an additional 10 seconds for their platform grab or to deduct that same amount from a rival competitor’s time. As tensions rise, one contestant’s journey will come to an end in the latest episode titled “Happy Hour,” which is set to air on Thursday, April 6, from 8:00 to 9:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
Mentors and Contestants Unite
Gordon Ramsay teams up with renowned chefs Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais to mentor a select group of talented individuals. They have scoured the nation to curate an impressive lineup of home cooks, social media culinary stars, and seasoned professionals who will represent their teams. The ultimate victor will receive a generous reward of $250,000 and the opportunity for a year-long mentorship.
Contestant Lineup
Here are the remaining competitors:
- Team Arrington: Nuri Muhammad, Omi Hopper, Pilar Moega, Shay Spence

Recap of Previous Events
The competition took a significant turn when the team structure was dissolved. In the preceding challenge, each chef selected a box marked with a country’s flag and was charged with preparing that nation’s signature dish. Gordon announced that Omi, Tucker, and Michelle had emerged as the top three chefs, while in a subsequent cook-off, Pilar and Vinny triumphed over Preston Nguyen, resulting in the elimination of the seasoned chef from Dallas, Texas.
New Challenge Unveiled
As the top ten chefs gathered in the studio, they were greeted with congratulations and informed about their next challenge involving appetizers and craft cocktails. With a time limit of 40 minutes, the winner would secure a valuable time token. Michelle, Omi, and Tucker ascended to the top level for this task, while Chris, Mehreen, Nuri, Shay, and Tineke occupied the middle level, and Pilar and Vinny descended to the basement.
Competition Heats Up
The platform lowered, and a heated scramble for scallops ensued between Omi and Michelle, with Michelle ultimately claiming victory. Although Omi settled for salmon, the rest of the grabs proceeded without major complaints, though Gordon appeared displeased with Michelle’s limited selection.
Risky Culinary Choices
Mehreen, who had never cooked lobster before, decided to take a chance, while the mid-round platform descended with an assortment of spirits and garnishes. Omi was excited to secure a piña colada, while some competitors expressed frustration over Nuri’s height advantage, allowing him to easily access items. Mehreen, being Muslim, felt out of her element with the alcohol, while Vinny was thrilled to find bourbon available.
Time Constraints Create Pressure
With only eight minutes left on the clock, Vinny discovered that he had forgotten to wrap his Scotch egg in ground pork, a critical error that left Nyesha exasperated as she urged him to rectify the situation. Compounding his troubles, he neglected to taste his cocktail before time expired. Meanwhile, Mehreen made a significant oversight by failing to place her cocktail on the platform, which could prove detrimental.
Tasting Begins
The judges began tasting the dishes, starting with the basement chefs. Vinny’s deep-fried egg paired with potato fondant was deemed unappetizing, while Pilar’s skewers and Tom Collins cocktail received praise for their presentation and flavor.
Middle Level Evaluations
On the middle level, Chris’s oysters served two ways with a Negroni demonstrated skill, while Mehreen’s lobster spring roll was criticized for being overly sweet due to the absence of her cocktail. Tineke’s tuna tostada was visually appealing, but the dough was undercooked. Shay’s Lebanese sambousek impressed the judges, and Nuri’s chicken lollipops were noted for their heat, complemented by a standout rum punch.
Top Floor Highlights
From the top floor, Tucker’s Spanish prawns paired with a Moscow Mule impressed Nyesha, while Michelle’s scallops served two ways with a Mojito were perfectly executed. Omi’s salmon dish, accompanied by a piña colada, was described as a “wow” experience.
Judging and Outcomes
After deliberation, the judges selected Nuri, Shay, Omi, and Tucker as the top four, who will compete in the premier kitchen next week. Nuri earned the time token, while Vinny, Tineke, and Mehreen found themselves facing elimination.
Elimination Cook-Off
During the elimination challenge, the trio must prepare a Japanese wagyu filet. Tineke encountered a problem with her cheese sauce, while Mehreen worried about undercooking her steak, and Vinny questioned his choice of cucumbers over mushrooms. Gordon and Nyesha will judge this round. Mehreen’s steak was praised as perfectly cooked, with delicious chutney, while Vinny’s dish was harmonious yet perplexing due to the pickled cucumber. Tineke’s steak with cheese and truffle sauce was deemed tasty but slightly overshadowed by the cheese. Ultimately, the decision was made to eliminate Vinny, allowing Mehreen and Tineke to return next week.
